Patron Saints and Rituals
By the time I started high school, I had visited many of the world's great museums. Based in the Philippines, my family made of point of introducing me to art on our travels throughout Europe and Asia. I felt as if my head had been cracked open, allowing for amazing visual information to pour in. Early Christian subject matter, with its rich imagery, iconography and symbolism was particularly fascinating to me. Each one of my paintings explores a mysterious world where ancient rituals, religious symbolism and contemporary concerns intermingle. I cast old symbols in a contemporary language.
